The Oklahoma Ornithological Society will host our Fall meeting in the Oklahoma City Area on October 21, 2023. We hope to see many of our members there.
We’ll have field trips to Lake Hefner and the Myriad Botanical Gardens downtown and then our meeting at the Arcadia Conservation Education Area in Edmond. Details below. Check back for registration information and other updates. All activities are free except the dinner event on Saturday evening.
Some folks will be staying at the Hampton Inn in Edmond. We don't have a room block, but this is a good lodging option for those visiting from outside of the OKC metro area.
Friday evening:
5:30-9:00 pm. Come and Go Meet and Greet and Wingspan Games, (Arcadia Conservation Education Area, 7201 E 33rd St, Edmond, OK 73013)
Saturday, October 21, 2023:
8:00 am. Field Trip 1: Myriad Botanical Gardens and Scissortail Park, Downtown Oklahoma City, led by Zach Poland. Meet at Devon Pavilion on the north side of Crystal Bridge Conservatory.
8:00 to ~11:00 am: Field Trip 2: Lake Hefner and Area (parking and meet-up at Prairie Dog Point) with Joe Grzybowski. We'll walk the Point, looking out over the water and also bird the brush for land birds as we go. Bring a scope if you have one.
Lunch is on your own.
1:00-3:00 pm. Oklahoma Ornithological Society Board Meeting (Arcadia Conservation Education Area, 7201 E 33rd St, Edmond, OK 73013)
3:30-5:00 pm. Talks and Presentations by members and guests. (Arcadia Conservation Education Area)
6:00-8:00 pm. Dinner and Presentation on Northern Saw-whet Owls in Oklahoma by Laura Hulbert (Arcadia Conservation Education Area). Laura Hulbert is a graduate student at Northeastern State University who is conducting research on the Northern Saw-whet Owl. Laura will discuss her research on Saw-whets and their migration through Oklahoma.
