THE OOS has much to offer those
interested in birds. But do not overlook the fact that your
membership is important to the society. Many of the society’s
activities are far more successful if the membership is
substantial. Records of nesting, migrations, population shifts,
etc., become increasingly significant as the numbers of
observations increase. The scientific knowledge of Oklahoma
birds that is summarized in articles in the Bulletin and
elsewhere is drawn largely from the observations of OOS
members.
You should also be aware that
your OOS dues help pay for OOS projects. These include:
1)
Publishing the Bulletin, the OOS journal of record
2)
Publishing The Scissortail, the OOS newsletter
3)
Special projects (including grants to support research on
Oklahoma birds)
4)
